I began removing the top. I took all of the trim off first. Several screws just spun in place because most of the wood was dry rotted. I don't know if it was the factory or the previous owners, but someone thought the sheet metal should be glued down instead of just stapled. Either way it made it almost impossible to get the metal off.
If the previous owner had spent more time fixing this thing correctly it might have lasted longer. As it is they had added the A/C unit without strengthening the roof causing it to sag from the weight. This caused water to stand on the roof instead of running off. They then tried to water proof it by gobbing the silicone on. It just doesn't work. This thing was dangerous. the wood that supported the lifting mechanisms was rotted and this thing could have collapsed on them. Especially with the extra 100 pounds from the A/C. If you work on your own popup, be sure to check the integrity of the supports, the cables, and the roof. It may save you a headache or worse.
I am getting closer to having this thing stripped.
